Wildlife Tour of Sri Lanka (10 Days)

Day 01   Colombo Airport – Bentota (by surface)  02 hrs

On your arrival in Sri Lanka, a representative of Sacred Dot Tours, holding a sign in your name, will meet you in the arrivals area upon exiting baggage claim and escort you to your hotel in Bentota to check-in. (D)

Day 02  Bentota – Galle - Weligama (by surface)  (2.30 Hrs)

After breakfast, engage in a boat ride in the mangroves in Balapitiya. Thereafter travel to Weligama visiting the Dutch Fort in Galle en route. The Galle Fort was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, and then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

The fort has a colourful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrive & check in to hotel. Spend rest of the day at leisure. (B,D)

Day 03  Weligama – Mirissa  (20 minutes – one way)

Early morning travel to the Mirissa Harbour with a packed breakfast for a Whale & Dolphin Watching Excursion. The boats leave the Harbour by 07.00 a.m. and take up to three to five hours depending on the sightings of the mammals.  Spend rest of the afternoon at leisure. (B, D)

Day 04   Weligama – Bundala – Yala (by surface)   (4.30 Hrs)

Breakfast at hotel.  Travel to Yala. En route make a visit to the Bundala National Park to see the birdlife. Bundala National Park is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory water birds in Sri Lanka. Bundala harbors 197 species of birds, the highlight being the greater flamingo, which migrate in large flocks.  (B,D)

Day 05   Yala Full day safari at the Yala National Park. (Breakfast & Lunch included)

Yala National Park - Sri Lanka’s most known National Park is popular for Elephant, Leopard, Bear, Crocodile and Wild Boar. 97,800 hectares in extent, this is the second largest of Sri Lanka’s National Parks. Its open undulating terrain made it famous for elephants for many years, but recently the park has also received much fame through publicity by National Geographic and the Discovery TV channels, which focused on a leopard research/conservation and identification project. Claims have subsequently been made that Yala National Park has the world’s highest concentration of leopard per square kilometer. (B, L, D)

Day 06   Yala

Engage in more safari today (half day) You may either visit the Park during the morning hours or the afternoon. (B, D)

Day 07   Yala / Nuwara Eliya (by surface)  (5.30 Hrs)

After breakfast check out & travel to Nuwara Eliya. Visit a Tea Factory / Tea Plantation on arrival. Tea production in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, is of high importance to the Sri Lankan economy and the World market. The country is the world's fourth largest producer of tea and the industry is one of the Country’s main sources of foreign exchange and a significant source of income for laborers. (B, D)

Day 08   Nuwara Eliya - Horton Plains (by surface)   (1.30 Hrs)

Early morning go on a trek to Horton Plains National Park with a packed breakfast. Horton Plains - ’World’s End” and the beautiful bridal veil ‘Bakers Falls’ Sri Lanka's highest plateau 7200 ft above sea level in the central mountain country. This ‘Fen” is a very scenic region with an astounding variety of scenery from mountains to grasslands, from marshes to trout streams. Sri Lanka's best-flavored high grown teas are grown in the surrounding areas. Spectacular view from 'Worlds End' where the plateau plunges a thousand feet in a straight sheer drop. (B, D)

Day 09   Nuwara Eliya / Negombo (by surface)   ( 4 – 5 Hrs)

Breakfast at hotel.  Travel to Negombo. Check in & spend rest of the day at leisure. (B, D)

Day 10  Negombo – Airport  (Drive time – 20 minutes)

After Breakfast proceed to the Colombo Airport in time for departure flight. (B)
